FIGHTING HUNGER THROUGH MUSIC AND THE ARTS

Did you know:

  • 18.9% of children in PA participated in the Summer meals program the National School Lunch Program.

  • 49.5% of children in PA participated in the National School Breakfast Program.

  • 17.9% of children under 18 in PA are living in households that experience limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods at some point during the year.

  • In 2016, 59% of food-insecure households reported participating in at least one of these programs (SNAP, WIC and the national school lunch program) during the previous month.

FoodStock was created and nurtured by a group of musicians and music lovers that saw a way to give back to the community with our collective talents by raising much needed funds and resources to those organizations addressing hunger in our communities. In 2013, after our maiden FoodStock Music Fest, an angel stepped from the crowd and offered guidance and help. Jack was a marketing professional by trade, but a humanitarian and music lover at heart. He quickly became a board member and offered an immeasurable amount of guidance, moral support, professional advice, and an unmatched enthusiasm for the mission. Jack and his wonderful wife Sarah became beloved friends over the next 12 years, and I had the privilege of spending many occasions just enjoying his company over food and drink. Jack was a one-of-a-kind person and I can't overemphasize his impact on me. His example is one to be emulated and admired. Jack possessed a quiet dignity and determination that was truly impressive. Sadly, Jack passed away on February 16th, 2025, after a long battle with declining health, and the void he leaves is huge. FoodStock ceased actively holding its annual Music Fest in 2019 with the onset of COVID, and it's not clear where we'll go from here, but please understand, any small achievements or successes FoodStock may have attained were due in large part because of Jack Fliszar's belief in what we could accomplish for others that are less fortunate. God bless you Jack. Rest in paradise my friend.
